This page has been provided to help shed some light on the importance of each type of device that is commonly installed in or available for today's computers.
Similar to home entertainment speakers and headsets, the units used for computing purposes handle the emitting or receiving of sound from and to the computer sound system. Some PC audio devices can even be attached to home stereos (although doing so is not al that practical since speakers are relatively cheap). It would seem that the lowly computer speaker or microphone serves best as a desktop ornament rather than a serious device. On the contrary, audio equipment is as varied as processor types. You can now choose from 2, 3, 5, 7, or 9-piece speakers, speakers with subwoofers, huge watt ranges (yes even 1000 watts), satellite speakers, digital-S/PDIF output, flat panel designs, and ones that sit in or around monitors. Microphones are likewise endowed: wireless, USB, digital, unidirectional, clip, boom, or amplified. | |||||||
