This page has been provided to help shed some light on the importance of each type of device that is commonly installed in or available for today's computers.
A scanner converts photographic or printed material laid on its scanning surface into data the computer can recompose digitally. This makes them effective for "reading" written documents for a computer to assimilate. Functionally, they are the opposite of printers. Two terms should be understood when talking about scanners: OCR and resolution. OCR (Optical Character Recognition) is the process of reading a written page and extracting the text from it -- excellent for quickly entering textual information without typing. Resolution refers to the density and size of the scanned image. The larger the resolution, the finer the detail but larger the image. Scanners offered by OMIT are usually connected by USB cable. Nothing to worry about since all OMIT computer come with 2 to 4 USB ports active. | |||||||
