This page has been provided to help shed some light on the importance of each type of device that is commonly installed in or available for today's computers.
Viruses are malicious, sometimes destructive, yet quite common programs that can: annoy users with annoying pop-ups, steal information for the benefit of the hacker, distort or corrupt critical systems or even damage these systems. The easiest way to get a virus is through Internet file transfers and emails. Viruses simply "piggy-back" on ligitimate files and susequently load themselves high in memory. Viruses areen't new, and neither is the defense. Many computers, including OMIT systems, have hardware anti-virus programs built-in. However, a prudent user should have in place a commercially available anti-virus solution such as VirusScan or InoculateIT. | |||||||
