This page has been provided to help shed some light on the importance of each type of device that is commonly installed in or available for today's computers. Cases come in a variety of shapes and sizes, with terms like ATX, mid-tower, bays, et cetera. The fact is the case is akin to the "body" of a automobile. It provides support and protection for the motherboard, drives, circuits, power supply and cables. The concept of a 'form factor' is the size and feature support of the case. Our Titan line of customizable PCs are available in two case styles:
The most popular form factor for a case is the ATX Mid-tower. It usually stands 17 inches high and contains 2 to 3 full-size drive bays (the space reserved to house CDs and DVDs), 1 to 3 half-size drive bays (internal spaces used by floppies, zip and hard drives), up to 7 expansion ports on the back (slots where expansion boards can fit) and a minimum 300 Watt power supply. ATX also gives the user the added benefit of front-side power/reset buttons and optional USB ports. Former AT-class formats were smaller and boasted less power. Desktop ATXs are similar to their Tower counterparts, except that the case sits on its side. When buying a computer, pay close attention to its expandability, upgradability and ease of transport. For instance, Titan cases come with up to 7 USB ports and 4 Antec Smart fans! Both are selectable in the Titan configurators. | |||||||
