This page has been provided to help shed some light on the importance of each type of device that is commonly installed in or available for today's computers.
Possibly the most important component in a computer is the processor (or CPU, microprocessor). Although system performance is determined by the efficiency and access times of each part, it is the processor that is the ultimate basis for the overall system speed. CPU clock rates are measured in megahertz (MHz) or gigahertz (GHz). 1 megahertz is equivalent to 1,000,000 processes per second, while 1 GHz is about 1,000 MHz. Furthermore, several elements help determine the CPUs performance capability such as: cache, bus speed, and math functions. Most of today's processors are manufactured by three companies, Intel, AMD, and Motorola. Our computers, Titan and Tytannia, are based solely on the Intel Celeron, Pentium IV, and AMD's Athlon processors. These systems are classed as CE, P4, and AX respecitively. | |||||||
