Case Mods
>> Need a Cooler?
Just like hotrods and street racers of today, computer systems have become the new canvas of the brave extremist. Among the standard alterations such as processor and video overclocking and memory performance tweaks, system mods also include colored LED lit fans, water coolers, and photographic decalling.
- LED-Lit Thermal Case Fans - The easiest way to remove warm air is to use well-placed fans. Simple enough and certainly very inexpensive, but it's time to jazz them up a bit. Now users can replace those non-descript fans with clear ones that sport one, two, or more colored LEDs.
- Water Coolers - Oooh! How cool! These new fridged bad-boys work much like the radiator in your car. A pump forces cool water through flexible lines across the processor, through a fan/radiator and back to the pump. Verrrry efficient. However, water coolers, no matter how ideal they are at removing heat, are more expensive and consume more space than a standard processor fan/heatsink. If you are ready for them or are pulling out the fire extinguisher whenever you run your fan-cooled box, go for it.
- Light Bars and Cathode Tubes - If you think that your case should resemble a disco, why not drop a cold-cathode tube or sound-activated light bar in your case? These devices create multi-colored atmosphere by using charged neon (or similar noble gas) locked in a sealed tube. They come in ruler-straight, circular, or light wire tube styles. The flexibility of the latter type allows you to run the tube around objects. Only two caveats: 1) light bars require power from the main power supply (this is usually overcome with a supplied power splitter connector) and, 2) a windowed case is an obvious must if you want your friends to see the party!
- External System Monitors - These devices enhance the in-software or BIOS hardware health monitors by displaying tons of data right on the front of the case. Additionally, many external monitors include fan rotational velocity adjustment controls.
- Case Decalling - Although relatively new, some suppliers are providing system owners with a service to either add spraypainted or adhesive photographs to their cases. This has been the venue of gaming system makers such as AlienWare and Falcon Northwest, but as cases made from high grade aluminum or titanium are becoming more popular, any user can turn their box into an art gallery. This service will be offered by OMIT for OMIT Tytannia systems soon.
